Tutoring- The Most Important Tips
Every one of us gets to the point where we need the help of others. Whether it’s dealing with the new computer or understanding statistical problems: sometimes it just doesn’t work. Especially when learning at school or university, it can be useful to take advantage of tutoring. If you belong rather to the people who have the full view: all the better! Private tuition is becoming an increasingly popular part-time job among students. Why not use your own potential and become a tutor yourself and make ways to find tutoring jobs?
WHY SHOULD YOU GIVE TUTORING?
This is exactly the question you may be asking yourself right now. Why should you use your well-earned free time to give tutoring in addition to your university? After all, it’s not your problem if others don’t get the hang of it. Well – of course it’s not your problem. At least as long as you don’t have to do group work or similar things together. At the latest then you would also be happy if someone had explained the connections to them early on.
There are many good reasons for tutoring:
You can help other students to understand complicated facts better.
You can consolidate your knowledge by yourself: constant repetitions won’t let you forget anything and make you an expert in your field.
If you would like to become a teacher later, this is the best preparation for you.
You are flexible in your timing: you decide to whom, when and where you want to give tutoring and how much you want to give.
WHAT POSSIBILITIES ARE THERE FOR TUTORING?
Give private tutoring
A large proportion of those who give tutoring are organised privately. This means that you don’t have to register anywhere, but look for your private tutors yourself. How you do it is completely up to you. For example, you can find interested people in your circle of acquaintances or via social networks. With these you regulate the basic conditions of your private lessons then. But what possibilities are there to give private tutoring? First of all you have to find your pupils. You can, for example, use private contacts or become active yourself.
Use tutoring platforms
In order to find new pupils or students who need tutoring, you can use tutoring platforms on the Internet in addition to your personal network. There you usually set up a profile and can then post individual tutoring offers for different subjects and class levels. Depending on the platform, the offer is either completely free of charge, a monthly fee is charged by you as a tutor or a certain portion of the hourly wage per tuition hour is retained by the platform. The big difference to private tutoring is that you have to register to be able to give tutoring. The students usually get in touch with you so that you don’t have to look for them.
Group private lessons give
In order to be able to give tutoring not only for individuals, but also for groups, work as a crash course tutor is an option for you. A crash course provider advertises your crash courses, so you don’t have to worry about how to find your tutors. To be able to hold crash courses you need to apply to a provider such as www.studybees.de . They will make a preselection and test your expertise and pedagogical skills. If you are accepted, you create a course plan and content for your courses together with the provider. For the tuition you usually get an above-average hourly wage of 15-20€. Some providers even give you an extra bonus if you offer particularly good courses and are positively evaluated by your tuition students.
Working at a tutoring institution
If you don’t want to find your tuition students yourself, you can also apply to a tuition institute as a tutor. Many students work there, but also retired teachers or part-time tutors. There are more than 3,000 private tutoring institutions in Germany, so you can find something in your area to give private tutoring.
The tutoring in the institutes is usually divided into individual tutoring and tutoring in small groups of 3-5 students. In some cases these are thrown together across ages or subjects. Your average hourly wage as a tutor at tuition institutes is usually 9 to 15 € per hour and thus lower than with other options. Also here you register and are afterwards placed with potential private tutors if your suitability has been checked.
